Every discussion of supplement efficacy eventually comes down to dose. An ingredient at an insufficient dose does not produce the outcomes clinical research documents. It produces the appearance of coverage — the nutrient is on the label, which is technically true, and that is where the honesty ends.
Gummies structurally limit doses. When the majority of a gummy's weight is the structural base, the remaining space for active ingredients is modest. Manufacturers have two choices: put in enough of each ingredient to make the gummy effective, which would require an impossibly large gummy or an unrealistic number of pieces per serving, or put in a smaller amount and accept that the product will look complete without performing completely.

How to Read a Supplement Label With This in Mind
The next time you pick up a gummy supplement — or any supplement — the label tells you more than the marketing does. Here is what to look for:
• Check the serving size. How many gummies constitute a serving? Products that require four or five pieces to reach their listed doses are inflating the appearance of dose-per-piece.
• Look at the inactive ingredients list. Count how many ingredients exist only to maintain the gummy structure. A long list of structural ingredients relative to active ones tells you where the formulation priorities were.
